Varadero is part of a peninsula that extends far into the calm waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The 21-kilometer-long beach of fine white sand is an ideal vacation spot for sunbathers and water sports enthusiasts. The location of Varadero on a narrow peninsula makes it constantly cooled by tropical breezes. But this white beach, against a background of turquoise water and azure sky, is not the only highlight in the province of Matanzas. The nearby towns of Cardenas and Matanzas are well known for their art, history and culture. On the Southwest of Varadero is the Zapata Peninsula, famous for its eco-tourism and history.
